London Map Fair 2023
10-11
June 2023
London Map Fair 10-11 June 2023. London remains the capital of the art world, and the Summer antique fairs are usually a highlight, but this year the landscape looks dramatically different. Some of the biggest events of the season have been cancelled. Masterpiece, Olympia and the Open Art Fair have all announced that their 2023 events are not viable.
The London Map Fair is bucking the trend. The world’s oldest and largest specialist antique map fair will take place in the historic surroundings of the Royal Geographical Society, as usual, on the weekend of 10th and 11th of June. Longstanding organisers Massimo of Altea Gallery and Tim of Bryars and Bryars have brought together about 35 leading international map and print dealers. We are welcoming some new exhibitors this year, including Shapero Rare Books, Manning Fine Art and Robert Hall Pictures, and we are welcoming back some of our EU exhibitors such as Berlin-based Clemens Paulsch. We are encouraging exhibitors to broaden the range of topographical prints, travel and propaganda posters and other material available for sale at the fair, which already has a considerable crossover with the material they already bring. To bring us right up-to-date, TAG Fine Arts will be showcasing the work of some of the artists they represent who work with cartography, including Adam Dant, Stephen Walter and Jeremy Wood. Adam will be giving this year’s map fair lecture, on the relationship between maps and art. Ashley Baynton-Williams will be giving his regular talks on map collecting for beginners. As always, admission is free.
